Lo "scontorno" (così come utilizzato nel fotomontaggio o negli stencil caratteristici di molti graffiti), lungi dall'essere una mera pratica "meccanica" o automatica, presuppone una significativa conoscenza della forma, del disegno, della luce. Le immagini foto-grafiche non hanno un contorno, un limite preciso tra l'oggetto e lo sfondo, tra la materia e l'aria, ma registrano semplicemente l'effetto della luce sulle cose.
Tra la foto-grafia e il disegno, (in questo caso lo scontorno), si ripropone quella differenza caratteristica tra il disegno fiorentino e il colore della pittura veneta. In sostanza, lo scontorno, comporta un preciso intento "chirurgico" di individuare quel limite ideale.
